Hotline Bling – Guest Cocktail – DSC

February’s guest cocktail was the ‘Hotline Bling’ – created and named with Valentine’s Day in mind.

Designed for two to share although it could just as easily be sipped by one, it involved a generous amount of the somewhat-neglected premium rose petal-based liqueur, Lanique.

The sweetness of the Lanique was well balanced out in this lovers’ libation by a good amount of Cocchi Americano, Cranberry, Balsamic and Boker’s bitters.

If you missed out on this month’s guest cocktail, then you can look ahead towards our next one – the Whiskey-soaked Kildare cocktail, made with one eye firmly fixed on St Patrick’s Day on 17th March.

DSC – 4th Birthday

Discount Suit Company turned four on 10th January.

To mark the occasion we got all nostalgic and revisited all our Greatest Hits from past menus.

Throughout our birthday week, from the 8th-14th January, we put together a special drinks list with one cocktail from each of our previous seven menus.

One fan favourite per day took its turn to bask in the limelight, and each were available for just £6 on the night.

Two Irishmen came to stay.

We kicked off the week by hanging out with our favourite Two Irishmen – a stirring concoction of Irish Whiskey, Cocchi Americano, Benedictine and Bitters – before we started pining after a Pina Fumada and so decided to give that it’s time in the sun on Tuesday night.

The Pina Fumada was next up.

We were feeling pretty Honki Dori on our big day.

Wednesday was our big day and we were feeling pretty good about it, so giving the Honki Dori a chance to shine felt apt.

The next day saw the sweet and tangy Grapes & Grain pick up the birthday baton, before it was swiftly passed on to the tangy Tailor of Two Cities to see us into the weekend in style.

Grapes & Grain was Thursday’s star.

The Tailor Two Cities was the perfect fit for Friday night.

The Picadura didn’t disappoint.

The Picadura was pretty as a – well – Picadura on Saturday night, before we started hankering for some Akvavit and decided that Dill Will Do to see us through on Sunday evening.

Dill Will do rounded off our birthday week with a flourish.

I don’t know if you can tell but overall we enjoyed ourselves greatly, so a big thank you to everyone who came through our doors and made our fourth birthday one to cherish.

Cheers, and here’s to many more to come!

Red Red Rose – Guest Cocktails – DSC

The first guest cocktail of 2018 at Discount Suit Co was the ‘Red Red Rose’, a doff of our caps to Scottish lyricist and poet Rabbie Burns – as well as towards Burns’ Night which took place on the 25th.

This time round we featured the rich and full-bodied Compass Box Artist’s Blend Scotch, which is packed with heady and warming notes of fruit and spice – making it a perfect fit for these cold winter months.

We put together this particular number by marrying a good glug of Compass Box Artist’s Blend Scotch whisky with Dubonnet Rouge, Pedro Ximinéz, Peychaud’s Bitters & Absinthe to create a hearty, warming, deep red libation.

The Halloween Jack the Ripper Tour – DSC

This Halloween, Discount Suit Company joined forces with the award-winning London Walks for a chilling night of cocktails and Ripper walks.

Guests were greeted outside by their guide for the evening, Simon Whitehouse, as well as a liquor-heavy spiced hot punch to warm them up on a cold October night.

They were then taken around the dimly-lit streets of Whitechapel and Spitalfields, exploring the old haunts of Jack the Ripper and learning about his gruesome crimes. They also got a chance to hear about the lesser-known side to the grisly saga – learning about the frenetic investigation conducted by police as they struggled to apprehend him on extremely limited evidence.

Two separate walks were conducted on the night, and both returned back to the warmth of the Discount bar to be greeted by a choice between two carefully-curated themed cocktails: the beetroot and Rhum-infused Requiem, and the gin-soaked Saucy Jack.

Afterwards, guests were invited to stay behind at the bar, sample some of our menu favourites and while away the rest of the evening with some newly-learned Ripper trivia.

If you missed this one not to worry! There’ll be plenty more. Keep your eyes peeled for future tours on our website, or sign up to our newsletter.

Pharmaceutical Stimulant #2 – Guest Cocktails – DSC

October’s guest cocktail at Discount Suit Co was the ‘Pharmaceutical Stimulant’, in which we featured the punchy flavours of one of the leaders of the poitín revolution, Ban Poítin.

Made to celebrate International Coffee Day on 1st October, we mixed cold brew coffee, a dash of Ban Poítin, Branca Menta and finished it off with coconut to create a surprisingly smooth yet deceptively strong libation.

DSC – 7th Menu

July saw the launch of Discount Suit Company’s new menu and we’ve got 9 new cocktails for you to try – as if you needed an excuse to pop in.

The new menu sticks to what we do best – bringing our own twist to classic cocktails. New members of the team, Oli and Hilding, were instrumental in designing the drinks, bringing fresh ideas and pulling us in a slightly different direction.

Check out our new sharer – the Anno, a Pisco based number with pineapple, lemon, bitters and Kummel (a liqueur flavoured with caraway seed, cumin, and fennel.)

Other crowd pleasers are the Dill Will Do – Akvavit, Vodka, Dry Vermouth, Lime, Coconut & Bitters with a sprig of dill to finish, and The Texan Tommy – Bourbon, Madeira, Chocolate Bitters and a ginger beer syrup made from our sister brewery, Umbrella Brewing’s alcoholic ginger beer.

National Tequila Day – Guest Cocktails – DSC

To commemorate National Tequila Day here at DSC, we’ve four classically inspired concoctions, from four staples of Tequila distillation.

Following the success of June’s 4 guest Gin cocktails for World Gin Day, why not do the same for Tequila?

Like the Gin drinks, each drink this month is from a different distillery but unlike the Gin ones, they are all from the same country, Mexico. Enable to call a spirit tequila it must be distilled with Blue Agave and must be from the Tequila region in Mexico in the state of Jalisco.

HACIENDA – TEQUILA HERRADURA

Tequila Herradura was founded by Félix López in 1870. It remained within his family for 125 years and still produces tequila in the Amatitán, Jalisco region of Mexico today.

Herradura Anejo, Byrrh, Rittenhouse 100, Agave Syrup, Jerry Thomas Bitters

TOMMY’S MARGARITA – TEQUILA FORTALEZA

Tequila Fortaleza is only a shade over 10 years old but has 140 years of history behind distilling tequila. They use the same copper pot stills that were built more than 100 years ago.

Fortaleza Reposado, Lime & Agave

BEYOND THE ROCKS – TEQUILA TAPATIO

Don Felipe Camarena’s family distillery was destroyed and left derelict in the Mexican Revolution. In 1937 he opened La Alteña Distillery in 1937 who now produces Tequila Tapatio that we know today.

Tapatio Blanco, Cherry Herring, Pink Grapefruit, Dubonnet Rogue & Pimento Dram

CADAVRE EXQUIS – TEQUILA ARETTE

Tequila Arette is named after a horse of the Orendain family called Arete who won Olympic Gold in Jumping. The family named the brand Arette to celebrate this achievement.

Arette 50%, Italicus Rosalio Di Bergamotto, Cocchi Americano, Citrus & Absinthe

World Gin Day – Guest Cocktails – DSC

In honour of World Gin Day on the 10th of June, we thought we’d do something a little different for this month’s Guest Cocktail at Discount Suit Company.

Instead of a single guest cocktail, we’re doing four! Four different martinis with four different gins from four different countries, in fact.

The four gins we’ve chosen are: Four Pillars from Australia, Ki No Bi Gin from Japan, St. George from the USA and Isle of Harris from up in Scotland – you can see what we’ve done with them below…

AUSTRALIA – FOUR PILLARS GIN

Four Pillars are a craft distillery in the Yarra Valley in Australia. They base their products around the ‘four pillars’ that are the still, water, botanicals and their passion.

Four Pillars Gin, Regal Rogue Daring Dry Vermouth & A Black Douce Olive

JAPAN – KI NO BI GIN, THE KYOTO DISTILLERY

The Kyoto Distillery is a craft Japanese distillery that never compromises on quality and are inspired by tradition. They make one product, Ki No Bi Kyoto Dry Gin.

Ki No Bi Gin, Yuzu & Cherry Blossom Cordial

SCOTLAND – ISLE OF HARRIS GIN

Isle of Harris distillery is situated on the Isle of Harris just off the northwestern coast of Scotland. They choose botanicals that they think reflect the flavours of the land.

USA – ST. GEORGE VODKA

Hearts Punch – Guest Cocktail – DSC

Christmas is a time for sharing so a cocktail for two seemed a fitting stint for our ‘Guest Cocktail’ in December.

Hearts Punch

Peated Scotch Whisky, Swedish Punsch, Earl Grey Tea, Pomegranate, Lemon & Angostura Bitters.

MENU

Grenada – Guest Cocktail – DSC

In July, DSC saw it’s guest spot taken by a Tapatio tequila based, fruity number called Grenada. Conjured by none other than our own Connor Shora Bloomfield.

Grenada

Tapatio, Swedish Punsch, Homemade Grenadine, Lime, Absinthe & Benedictine

MENU

Smith & Burns – Guest Cocktail – DSC

You might have seen from the name but Burns Night falls in January upon the 25th day. So it would seem fitting that the guest drink featured a bit of Dewar’s Blended Scotch Whisky. Threw in some Smith & Cross rum to add another level to the burn… Not for the faint hearted.

Smith & Burns

Dewar’s 12yr Whisky, Smith & Cross Rum, Cocchi Torino, Benedictine, Maple Syrup & Chocolate Bitters.
